The Kansas City Diamonds and St. Louis Gateway Gold Bring Professional Softball to Normal IllinoisThis Summer
NORMAL, Ill. – Professional softball is coming to Central Illinois this summer as the Kansas City Diamonds and St. Louis Gateway Gold bring a two-game exhibition series to The Corn Crib on July 31 and Aug. 1.
Both games are scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at the home of the Normal CornBelters as the two organizations continue expanding opportunities and visibility for women’s professional softball across the Midwest.
The exhibition series will feature elite professional and collegiate talent while introducing fans in the Bloomington-Normal area to the continued growth of the sport at the professional level.
In addition to the two-game series, the KC Diamonds and St. Louis Gateway Gold will host a youth softball camp on Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon at Champion Fields in Normal, IL. The camp will give young athletes the opportunity to learn directly from players and coaches from both organizations while participating in skill development and on-field instruction.
“This series is about celebrating the spirit of the game and inspiring the next generation of softball players,” President of the KC Diamonds Jeremy McDowell said.“We’re excited to bring professional softball to the Normal community, support youth athletes and give young fans the opportunity to see the passion, energy and teamwork that make this sport so special.”
League and team officials say events like the Normal exhibition series are part of a broader effort to continue building momentum for women’s professional softball while connecting with new fan bases and communities throughout the country.
The St. Louis Gateway Gold are led by a coaching staff featuring former St. Louis Cardinals players Matt Adams, Trevor Rosenthal and Kyle McClellan.
